I desperately needed a moment of respite.
At the rate of my current trajectory death by exhaustion was a real threat cresting over the horizon. I placed the responsibility of commanding the al-Maksur in your hands and set off on a journey. I set off to the Eisenreich. Seven great houses had welcomed me one by one, their demeanor more strange than the last.
The first house was home to hedonists, who grew fat and lazy upon the fruits of the labor of others. Upon inquiring if they were satisfied with the abundance they had been so clearly blessed with by Providence I was appalled to learn that they not only squander their blessings, but believe themselves ravaged by famine and crisis.
The second was home to master painters, composers, and sculptors. But none of them had found the inner pride to accept a single compliment of mine, giving me retort upon retort that their magna opera are really trite, tasteless drivel. I quickly extricated myself from such a negative environment, fearing it would influence my confidence on the battlefield if I ever allowed them to earn a place in my thoughts.
The third was entrenched in a war against themselves that scorched the very earth itself.
The fourth. Oh how I pity the fourth. They bear the power to change everything as we know it. Yet refuse to use it as they are unwilling, nay, not unwilling, but have decided themselves already lost. You do not wish to know how many times I have heard lamentations about the ‘futility of it all.’
The fifth had ignored my every attempt to request a visit. I instead took the opportunity to visit the markets, instead, to calm my nerves after arguing with the ‘great’ Karl von Bismark, the Patriarch of the fourth house I visited. I had nearly caused a diplomatic incident, but listening to the hopeless drivel that left the Saint of Vipers’ mouth was something I could not tolerate or bear. I will not accept that nihilistic trite from a man I considered ‘ally.’
The sixth. Oh, how the sixth were a shocking inversion of my expectations. They were bright, colors draped over their shoulders, men spirited and women fair. However, it was not until the end of my stay with them I had learned that this spirited appearance was to distract from the fact that they are born to accept death. They are convinced of a curse that will take husbands from their wives on the battlefield. I wish and I pray, that there will come a day that we will all put down our swords and end our wars. But that day will not come, not in our lifetimes, not if ever, perhaps. But it is a virtue, not a sin, to keep aspiring for a future that may not come.
The seventh had locked themselves away upon discovery of my visit, claiming that I was a foreign warmonger seeking to eradicate their bloodline.
So to answer your inquiry, ████████, no. I have no future plans to visit the Eisenreich again.
Hrunting is a khopesh forged in aurilanite, an alloy with a pale gold sheen.
You gain a +1 to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
Penitent Critical. When you score a critical hit with Hrunting, you can roll one of the weapon’s damage dice one additional time and add it to the extra damage of the critical hit. If the target was a fiend they must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you for one minute. The target may repeat the save at the end of their turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
The Seventh Virtue (1/Day). As an action, you cause a beam of radiant energy to flash from the sword in a 5-foot-wide, 30-foot-long line originating from you. Each creature in the line must succeed on a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw. A creature takes 2d10 + your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1) radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
